Welcome to Friends of Rietfontein
Friends of Rietfontein is a volunteer body that helps to protect, preserve and promote the Rietfontein Nature Reserve in Paulshof, Johannesburg.
Friends of Rietfontein is made up of members of Joburg City Parks, FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the Paulshof Residents Ratepayers Assocation.
The pristine 24 hectare bushveld nature reserve stretches over a rocky ridge and forms part of the green belt that runs all the way to Kyalami in the north. The Reserve is home to FreeMe, and is located at 138 Holkam Street, Rietfontein Ridge, Paulshof, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The reserve is open every day from 6 am – 6 pm and can be accessed via either the main entrance at 138 Holkam Road or via the FreeMe entrance just a little further down the road. Entrance is free, but please note that no dogs are allowed in the reserve. There is a short and relatively easy walking trail in the reserve – suitable for kids – which takes visitors to the top of the ridge with great views of Sandton.
To organise and book special events, such as picnics/day outings/etc, kindly send an email to Mimmi Masike – mmasike@jhbcityparks.com, and Sinah Magolo – smagolo@jhbcityparks.com, of City Parks to obtain the necessary information.
